Where to buy Le Male Elixir in the UK without overpaying

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Elixir sits at six UK retailers with a £24 gap between cheapest and dearest. Here is how to read that before you buy.

A single unbranded fragrance bottle lit from the side in daylight

Le Male Elixir is the sweeter, heavier version of a fragrance that has been on UK shelves since 1995. It is stocked almost everywhere, which is useful if you compare and expensive if you do not.

What it costs right now

The 125 ml bottle is the one most retailers push, and the one with the most competition.

Six retailers, with about £24 between the cheapest and the dearest. That is roughly a third of the low price, which makes two minutes of comparing worth more per minute than most things you will do today.

Check the concentration first

Most Le Male money gets wasted here, and it has nothing to do with which shop you choose.

The line has several members sharing nearly all of their name. Le Male, Le Male Le Parfum and Le Male Elixir are different fragrances at different strengths and different prices. Search results mix them together, and a listing called "Le Male" at a tempting price is very often the original eau de toilette.

Both are good. They are not substitutes for each other and should never be compared on price as though they were. If you want the Elixir, check the word appears on the retailer's own product page rather than just in the link you clicked.

Then check the size

125 ml is the common Elixir bottle, but smaller ones exist and they are not proportionally cheaper. Work out the price per millilitre before deciding the small bottle is the thrifty choice. It usually is not.

Is now a good time to buy?

A low price on its own tells you very little. What tells you something is how that price compares with what the same bottle has been going for.

That is what the blocks above show: the best price today, the lowest we have recorded, and where today sits between them. Near the bottom of that range, buying now is reasonable. Near the top, an alert costs nothing and so does waiting.

Fragrance pricing is unusually seasonal. Discounts cluster around gifting periods, and the deepest cuts on established men's fragrances tend to land in the run up to Christmas rather than in July.

The short version

Confirm it says Elixir. Compare the same size across shops. Look at where today's price sits against its own history before calling it a bargain.
